MONEY-HAPPYNESS OR CURSE

"Money is anything that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts. The main functions of money are distinguished as: a medium of exchange, a unit of account, a store of value, and occasionally, a standard of deferred payment." this explanation we can see in wikipedia. But what exactly do we think about money? I am sure, that you have been asked if money makes you happy. Most of us would say; "of course not", some would say "YES"! and some would say :"a little bit". But all of us would like to have money because we need them. But there are some people for whom money was a curse.

Let's go through the statement, that money make us happy:
Scientis say that money makes us happy, because we can afford for lots of thing which are exciting, interesting and exclusive. They examinated 600 ambitious, young people from all world and asked how much do they have in their bank accounts and if they are happy. The examine showed that, people who earn more are more happy and satisfied. 80% of woman and 78% of men with more than 700 000 euro in bank accounts said that money made them more happy.
The truth is that if you have so much money you can buy almost everything, you can travel if you like, you can lie all day(i you are so rich that you don't have to work) or do some expensive sports. You also have a lot of friends, girlfriend or boyfriend, wife or husband. But the risk is, they get on well with you because of your money and there is a little chance to get know if they really do or not. Scientists proved also that another thing which make us happy are our relationships. But even miliarders can not buy anyones feelings.

And there is the statement of other scientis who say that it doesn't matter if you have money or not. They believe that everybody can be happy. In their opinion everything depends on your character and disposition. Optimists are more likely to be happy, because they can see a good sides almost in everything, when for pesimistics everything seems to be sad and bad. So optimistict appreciate what thay have and are happy with that, and pesimistics complain for everything no matter what it is. The second argument for them is that, what I have already written, that we can not buy feelings so if we love somebody with unreciprocated love we won't be happy no matter if we have money or not.

There is also a third group of scientist which say that money make us happy only if our friends and collegues earn less than we do. If you earn 5.000.000 euro for year you won't be happy if your friends earn 25.000.000. Those scientists claim that we are happier when we see that we can afford for more than our friends.

I'm sure that you also heard about people for whom money was a course. First of all in USA huge amount of very rich people need psychologists and a lot of them treat their depression. Because, as few examinations showed very rich people feel some kind of "emptiness" in their lifes. It may follows that nothing can be new for them. They can have almost everything but for them it's nothing special. They can not find any aim in their life because of that. They think they reach everything that they could and there is nothing to discover. Rich people have problems what to do with their money. Some of them are also uncertain if they friends really likes them or likes only their money. They are stressed because of that all the time and they can't trust anybody. Some milioners are also afraid of being stolen and biliarders are affraid of being killed by family for money. There were few people who won a fortune playing LOTTO and gave all money back because they didn't know what to do with so much money and they two of them started to be crazy about being stolen and killed.

As you can see there are many opinions. But I think we all can agree that money helps in life and sometimes make it easier.

  1. I think that money by itself doesn't give us much. Its value is the value of things it gave us. There were many situations in history when money didn't give much. During wars more important was to have a shelter or something to eat. Even nowadays the value of fortune seems to be small for millionares who have no family, no real friends. It shows that question if money is happiness or curse is really subjective and each person has probably his own answer.

  2. In my opinion there is a kind of schizophrenia in our culture: on the one hand all human acting is focused on making money, on the other admiting that money brings happiness is a shame, because suggests that we are materialists. In fact our culture forced in some way consumptive stile of life and it is difficult to live in world, where everything seems to be saying, that without money you are nothing. However, there is no rule, that could interchangeably define if money brings happiness or not.

  3. What results of your statements- and I completely agree- is that it doesn't matter if you have money or not- but it's your attitude who count. It's true that the rich people are often unhappy- but not always. Like the poor people too.
I think you can't be happy if the money is your main aim in the life. Then, if you attain this aim- you feel this emptiness mentioned by Magda, and if not- you're still unhappy. But if money serve you to realise your dreams, it can bring you hapiness. But you couldn't forget about the others: the hapiness shared with the familiars tastes more.

  4. Nowadays people should have money to be happy. This may sound terrible but unfortunately that's true. Of course, true feeling just can't be bought but you can't live only thanks to love or friendship. We learn to have a job and we work to have money. When we have money we can develop our interests and feel more free. But we're not free because we're the slaves of money. Of course, some rich people are unhappy. But some poor people too so I think that's not a rule. When we have a lot of money we want more and it is easier to loose ourselves... But when we're reasonable we can be truly happy and even help someone else who is in worse situation :)

  5. I agree that money helps in life. But once we make enough money to support our basic needs, our happiness isn’t significantly affected by how much money we make.
Someone said that it’s a first time in history when we have so many rich and so many poor people. Modern world is more and more splitting into this two separate groups, and none of them is really happy which what they have. That in my opinion is really sad conclusion.

  6. I don't know whether money is giving happiness but sure are making the life easier. This sentence already a bit consumed can but real. There are people which are really poor but they are able to be happy. However of them life is very difficult connected with physical suffering, heavy with work. There are also people, which for me have all are constantly unhappy of what different stupid things which they are doing are a word. There is so no one reply to this topic. It depends on the man. However I would tohave much money..

  7. It is safe to say that money helps in life and always makes it easier.Money brings happiness to you more or less indirectly, because thanks to it you can satisfy different kind of needs, including the simplest necessities of life as well as sophisticated ones.
Remember that happiness is hard to define and is composed of various simultaneous elements. So only money won't give you that, but without it your happiness will be mared.

  8. Money is a tender of exchange. Nowadays we can not exchange with goods and the statement that life without money is impossible is commonly true. We need money for our basic consumer needs and for higher-order needs as well, for buying services and making our dreams come true. But in strict sense money is not our happiness. I am sorry of people for whom money gives the sense of life...

  9. I think that money is giving happiness if we can manage it reasonably. People need money to quiet, safe life. Money warrant access to basic human needs. And spending money is good fun:)

  10. In my opinion spending money gives us happiness if we earn them. Of course, when we have enough for our needs. But there is no rule. There are people who are poor and happy, and is a big group of people who earn a lot of money but their private life is miserable.

  11. I agree with Maciek - money earned by myself could give me happiness on some way. I feel comfortable, that I'm not as dependent on my parents as I used to be and I can afford on something more than before. But money is only a small part of something I can call "happiness" - there are many other (more?) valuable things, which comprise it.

  12. Money make our life easier. It helps us to fulfil dreams, travel ( which is expensive -we know:) ) and buy whatever we need. Money bring us happiness but sometimes it can destroy us and we have to be carefree. I know person who don't have much money, but she is really happy. So it depends on person...

  13. I think money may not be the most important thing, but it is definitely necessary for a person to feel happy. Money gives a sense of security and without it people are frustrated and discouraged. They spend a large portion of their time on worrying how to make ends meet. Moreover, I think that people are a lot happier when they can afford to do something just for pleasure once in a while.

  14. I also think money are important when you want to feel happy. It is true that money allow you to fulfill your dreams but what is more important they let you live on proper living standard. You may not be great fun on theater or cinema but without them you couldn't go to those places. And how long do you think you con watch tv? Money help you gain small but very important in everday life things. That's why I think money can help you in being happy

  15. I can't imagine world without money at all. We need it to be happy because it prevent us from doing things we hate such as hunting, sewing or walls painting and leave it for the others more keen into it simply rewarding the needed job with money which we have earned doing something we love. In this view "Money makes the world goes around".
True is also that in many cases money can destroy people who have it too much as well as too little. Being happy means to have it enough to not bother about it and take care of more important stuff:)

  16. People need money and money need people. Person who says that money don't give happiness probably has never had a large amount in his account or don't know how to do this. Of course money and shouldn't be a the end of the road which we want to reach, but this race to collect more and more is very natural and healthy. I also disagree with opinion that money chane people for worse. Somtimes is happens, but why we don't see the good side of making money? People who reach a milionaire are more patient, hard-working and usually generous than others.

  17. Yes, money are very important in our lives, because we can do what we want when we have it. We can buy a lot and go everywhere we want. We can make people happy, because we can buy some gifts for many people. But also money can change our live in bad way. We can become more stingy and have fewer friends. Money can make our lives easier bad also can complicate they.

  18. Money shouldn't be the most important thing in our life. It's true - they are helpful. But sometimes lack of money is reason of the creative thinking. For example: we love traveling and we want to see interesting place. But we don't have enough money to go to France or Russia. So - we find something in Poland. It's cheaper but probably alike interesting, I think :)

  19. I think that money are important in our world, but they can't be the most important in our lifes. Money can help us in achieveing our direction. They also help us in becoming independent. In fact it only dependes on how you manage the money you have.
