Is it expensive or not?

Beef, sandwich, coffe, tea, chocolate, potato, pizza, beer, champain, mushrooms... I will not belive that you do not know hot does this things taste. We eat them almost everyday. It is normal food for us. But somethimes we wat to eat something "special" "different" or more "exlusive, so we go to restaurants. But can you imagine, that this everyday food, like beef and potato can be so expensive like new great TV or really professional camera or even more??!!

1) For me the most unbeliveble was pizza. You can buy pizza for 5 dollars but if you want to eat special pizza, go to Italia and eat a pizza for 8300 euro!! You will propably think, that it is impossible. But adds at this pizza are: lobster, caviar and whisky. I did not have a oppotrunity to try something like that, so I can only watch it on the picture (probably like most of you)

2) The other thing that you would not expected to be so expencive are potatos.

Can you imagine that those potatos look like normal one, but one kilogram costs 500 euro??!!

3) The most expensive mushroom in the world is the white truffle. These truffles are sold at a amazing price of €2,000 and €4,000 per kilogram. It does not look very tasty, does it?

4) Hamburger can cost you even 175 dollars on Manhattan, so be carefull if you are going to be there. This special hambutger goes with black truffles, Kobe beef and instead of colourfull spices it has got minutes particles of GOLD!

5) The tastiest and most expensive chocolate in the world is Chocopologie by Knipschildt. At $2,600 per pound. It is handmade chocolate truffle and is available only if ordered. (It is almost impossible)

6) The other thing is water. You can buy one Naleczowianka for less than one dolar but you can choose Kona Nigari water, that takes the title for the world’s most expensive water. The desalinated water high in minerals from the deep seas off Hawaii, costs $16.75 per ounce.

I am sure that you have heard before about some expencive restaurants. For example SKETCH in London. You will not find cheapper meal than for almost 250 dolars!!

The other "nice" restaurant is in Tokio - Aragawa. The average meal costs about 400 dolars.

And the most expensive restaurant is probably MASA in New York. There you have to spent at least 650 dolars if you want to be full.

Of course not everyone can eat in such resteurans or try such food. Even very rich people can not afford to go there all the time.

But for me the interesting quesiton is: Is this food really so delicious that we have to pay for this 400 dollars? And how rich you have to be to become a well-known customer??

Would you like to spent so much money for food, that you eat for ten minutes?:)

  1. Well, although I love to eat good things and I know, that usually they aren't the cheapest ones, I think that food shown in presentation above isn't worth that prices. Water is water and pizza is pizza - spending plenty of money on them is an act of snobism and anything more. The only thing that I would try for such a price (of course if I had enough money) is white truffle - I heared that it's really delicious mushroom and I'm really interesting, how it tastes.

  2. In my opinion the best is Chocopologie by Knipschildt with truffle. But I think price of this product is the most special too... But I can understand this price for good chocolate. But I undrestand how can people pay for example 500 dolars for 1 kilo potatoes?! I can't imaginary this!
Well, the most expensive "drink" which I whish dink is coffe Luwak. This coffe bean people which come form Asia pick up from excrement of Luwak. Delishes! I love coffe!

  3. I also love to eat and sometimes spend on it more money than I would like to, but I can't imagine that I could be able to pay eight thousands euro for a pizza!
In my opinion going regularly to restaurants such as MASA in New York is a waste of money, of course if someone has a lot money, he can do with it what he want. But I think that it would be better to give that money for charity.

  4. For me the most overpaid food was a 0.5L bottle of water in Oslo - it was just a normal mineral water bought in kiosk but it cost 13 zl ;)
It was because of currency high exchange rate, but still I was shocked.

  5. In my opinion all these products aren't worth of its prices. I don't think that potatoes which cost 500 euros for 1 kilogram are better than "normal" ones. I have even one example from Saturday. I bought one, small cup of tea in one of Warsaw restaurants. It costed 5 PLN. After arriving to my flat I prepared one tea pot (one litre). The taste was exactly the same, but preparing of that one litre tea pot I estimated on 0,4 PLN (including electricity, sugar etc.)

  6. In my opinion these products aren't worth their prices. People buy them to show other that their better because they can afford pizza for 8300€ or water for $16.75 per ounce. It's a waste of money especially in these days when everyone try to protect natural environment and help starving people in Africa.
If I was a rich woman I would like to try a Chocopologie by Knipschildt and white truffle. They're not an ordinary dish but something more. The white truffle is very rare to get that's probably the reason of it's high price.

  7. We should remember that prices of food are often connected with a place where we eat. Maybe paying so much for pizza isn't the best idea but I believe some of things like white truffles or for example some kinds of alcohol are worth of their prices. And we shoul remember that it isn't problem to spend 650 $ for supper for people who earn thousands or million of dollars for a month.

  9. I think that cheap products (if prepared in right way) can be as tasty and good as expensive ones. Of course, there're such things as real caviar or whisky that cannot be buy in each supermarket and sometimes we can permit ourselves to taste some luxury ;) But if we ate such things every day, they would lose their uniqueness. I don't know what would I do if I were extremely rich but I think that I wouldn't spend all my money on food ;) They're better ways to use it ;)

  10. I think, if people go to such expensive restaurants, they usually don't pay for expensive food but rather for the place, design and service. Except for such products, as truffle or water from the deep seas of Hawaii, in my opinion, food bought in expensive restaurants aren't worth the money have been paid for them. I don't visit such restaurants, but I think it is for people who have a lot of money and like to be in well-known places.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with you - the majority of the price is paid for a label and recommendation. What's more, the most expensive restaurants are serving the smallest portions... it's a little absurd for me.

And I don't know what's so special about these potatoes (2). Potatoes are just potatoes. I can't understand their enormous price. Maybe I'm too little exclusive xD.

I think some people have too much cash and that's why water in crystal bottles (which tastes like a plain water, I'm certain) and Very Special Potatoes are sold.

  12. I agree with you. To this exclusive reataurants pepole go to show, they are rich. The pay for a place, because the food can't be SO tasty to cost 400 dolars! I understand that some products are rare or make in a scpeical way and then ok - they can be expensive, like truffles.
And next drink, which is expensive is white tea, which costs about 150zl for 100g. But it taste really good... even if you can drink only one cup in month:)

    ReplyDelete
  13. But if you spend let say 10000zł on a drink are you going to say the truth about how it's taste? No, it's always fantastic, because price makes it unusual. In this kind of products you don't pay for the taste or how the dish looks. You pay for the guarantee that you're speciall and rest of people couldn't afford it.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that these prices are based on nothing, empty boxes. Great location - +10%; label - +10%, prepared by a well-known chef - +10%, etc.

It's interesting that someone wants to pay so much for a meal. They can afford it, they pay and spend money they earned (I suppose). Unfortunately, the more you earn the more you spend just because you can.

  15. If I were a milioner I probably eat in this restaurant. But I'm very fussy and I don't eat many products. I also don't distinguish many food (for example what someone give to spagetti: ready sauce or tomato...)

    ReplyDelete
  16. It depends on situation I am - when I would be a millionaire and have a lot of money for buying exclusive food - why not?! But for normal people spend that amount of money for eating - it's crazy!! Of course, black cavior might be very delicious, but i suppose in my life it won't be such a moment i taste it - life, life, life... it's so hard. On the other hand, I hate hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fishburgers, and other burgers - so eating in places like these in the pictures is not for me :D

    ReplyDelete
  17. If I were a millioner i probably be eat it such restaurant, but even now i think that it is good idea to go sometimes to the restaurant and buy something "special" maybe not for a 8500 euro:)

    ReplyDelete
  18. For me most of the things shown in presentation are expensive and what is more unreasonably expensive. I can understand people paying lots of money for products that are rare. but for ones that can be prepared or bought for much less and would taste as good - no I can't. It's just wasting money. With going to restaurants it's similar. You pay not only for the quality of food and service but also for the brand and good name of the restaurant which not always justifies the high prices.

  19. In my opinion spent so much money for food is very extravagance. Paid for one kilogram potatos 500 euro is not normal! I like taste food, but everythings have some limits. I thing also that's just wasting money.Cheaper food can taste also great:-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I partly agree with Mariusz. "Cheaper food can taste also great". But why not to try something special frome time to time? Of course if you have enough money. I love to trying various species of food. Frome meet to vegetables, everything is worth to taste it.
My friends during their voyages often it hamburgers, pizza and so on. I rather think, when I am in some another country, or even city I have to try something special for this region. I can tell It's my hobby:)
But I haven't so much money to pay 500 Euros for potatoes of course;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I like eat good things and from my experience I know that most of they aren't too cheap or rather on the contrary. However I agree that also this cheaper one can be tasty. Only some rare products or dishes are worth too spend on them much money but without exaggerate. In my opinion pay 175 dolars for hamburger is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  22. why spent so much money for food if you can eat cheap and so good as well but in deferent place? i think it is really riciculous.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also agree with you that cheaper food can taste also good.I like delicious food and I know that they also costs a lot but in my opinion spent so much money on food is unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  24. As a student I usually try to eat things that are rather cheap but not bad quality. I save money for entertainment. But sometimes I love to eat a sophisticated and expensive food. I'd love to try the white truffle and the most delicious chockolate. I think that everyone needs sometmes a bit of luxury.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The truth is painful, but real. People who say that cheap food can be as good as expensive stuff, probably never had eaten fois gras or caviar from Baikal lake. Please go earn some money then buy cheap vine "komandos" and comare it with "crictal" champagne, after tasting describe your personal feelings.

  26. wow, I'm very surprised. I didn't think that such simple dishes like pizza or hamburgers can be so expensive. I like a good kitchen and from time to time I allow myself to small madness in restaurants but the price of meals in the presentation are slight exaggeration to which can afford only the richest

    ReplyDelete
  27. ok truffle cost 4 000 it,s not something new. but what is special in this potatos ? you didn't write about this. and pizza with wisky ? is that tasty ?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Even if I were a millionaire I wouldn't pay 8300 euro for a pizza. It's just crazy! I'd find a better way to spent the money. Besides I would feel guilty. But it's my personal opinion. I don't disapprove if other people wants to try such things if they can. Surely it has to be an interesting experience.

  29. For me,spent so much money for food is just a wasting.Milioners are wasted money to eat on elegant area and buy some special dishes like white truffles during when so much people don't have money even for a bread.I don't know why people produce something like that. For costs of one of this pizza so much starving people can obtain something for feed,of course this kind of exlusive eating is doing only for rich people but what about this poor one?

    ReplyDelete
  30. tasty food can not be rich. some imagination and fundamental produckts and we can have delicious food.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This products are very expensive but only for us. For riche peolple it isn't much, so the point of view depend from point of sit. If I were rich I would buy this thing without thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It would't be truth, if I would say that I'm not curious about the taste of this expensive products, especiall about the taste of the white truffle, but for this price I would't buy it even if I had money for them.Paying 4,000 euro per kilogram for a mushroom is a waste of money, just think about all this children, who are starving in Africa, even in Poland!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with Roksana. That's crazy that so simple dishes like pizza, hamburgers, chocolate or mushrooms are so expensive!
I'm sure that these products are not worth that prices.Rich people who can afford to buy,eat these things should be more economical and invest their money in different way.
I think that we can eat something really delicious without spending all money...We can spend special, nice time eating tasty food even in front of TV.
Moreover,in my opinion this luxurious food is a waste of money and time.Rich people eatexpensive food to impress on other people and because they think that it's so fashionable and in good tone..

    ReplyDelete
  34. Potatos for 500 euro. I paid 2 zł for one kilogram of potatos one hours ago and they look similar. I suppose that Kome Nigari water and Nałęczowianka taste the same. I think this is idiotic pay so much.
I don't know what feel rich people when they eat this expensive food. Maybe they feel that they other better "variety of people", because they drink even water other people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I also agree with Roksana! I it really wasteing your money - that kind of food!
I like eating exotic food, try something that I never eat in my life - it is nice but not for that price! That kind of money I would like to spent for different things for example: clothes, books...
I also agree with Monika - maybe rich people fell better then "variety" people when they eat dish like pizza for 8,300 euro? I don't know that, but I know for sure that if I have ever much money I would never spent it for food.

  36. I don't thnik the taste difference between normal food and these 'special' things is as big, as in prices. That's why I wouldn't buy any of these extremly expensive things even if I could ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with others, we must pay a lot of money in exclusive places, and for example difference between cheap and expensive water is little or probably the difference doesn't exist. It's really nice eat in such restaurants, but more imortant is a person, who eat with us ;)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am agree with Balazej. I am also don't feel any difference between normal food and GM foos, maybe GM isn't so taste. The price is high and not availble for medium customers. Shops where we can get GM foos are infrequently and especially in bog cities.

  39. To my mind people who buying that kind of food are jus stupid. It is childlish way of exposing that you think that you are better that other 'ordinary' people. I think that waiters have fun giving them ten times overpaid food. To my mind this kind of people will pay enormous prices for something expensive just to pay more than other. To mymind they are stupid.

  41. I'm complete ignorant about sophisticated food. Usually I'm more focused on quantity, than on quality. Probably my taste isn't very refined :) However, there's no difference (in quality) between human sense of taste and sense of sight or hearing. Most of us understand, that some people can spend a fortune on paintings by Picasso or Stradivari's violins. I can also imagine, that for some people taste of exclusive potatos is worth the price (even 500 euro per kilogram). However, I suppose that cultivated taste isn't the most frequent cause of eating such expensive food.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that it's just wasting money.I don't see any between for example Naleczowianka and Kona Nigari water... IT'S ONLY WATER.
    Innocence...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with the statement that food is expensive, but only in the reseurant or in the bar. If we are cooking it alone we are spending less money and our food is healthier, becouse most often without chemical additions.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In my opinion if you want to pay a lot of money it's more profitable if you spend it on journeys or even books. What's more, we can't think only about ourselves! If you have so much money that you can buy truffles for 2 to 4 thousand pounds per kilogram you can also buy a hospital for starving kids in Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm a student and I can't spend a fortune on food. I have to economize and I don't think the most expensive food is the best. I try to eat organic food which is not the cheapest but I don't spend a lot. It's for people who don't care about the money. There are many ways to spend money better

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that we can not saving on food but also, without exaggeration. Everythink is for people and everythink we can eat within reason. We live only once and I want to try everything in my life.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think that if someone wants to spend money for exclusive food, it is its buisness. But in my opnion is quite stupid to pay a lot for ordinary products like pizza or potatoes. I understand it, for buying rare things like truffles or champagne, such products maybe are worth to cost a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't understand why anyone could buy anything to eat for that price.. Even unimaginable delicious food isn't worth that price becouse you just eat it. It isn't valuable, you can't keep it and sell. You spend so much money and in a few minutes something you buy don't have any value becouse you ate it. It doesn't make sense... You can eat something cheaper and in many cases more healthy and tasty. I think this food isn't sooo tasty - it's just about the unparalleled ingrediens. I can't imagine who can buy this food.. But if such restaurants exist - that means there are people who don't have idea what they can spend money for.

    ReplyDelete
  49. In my opinion, refined foods such as truffles, well cooked and served are worth the price. I think it depends on the people. I can live with the fact that such food is so expensive. It seems to me that the price also gives the uniqueness, thus we are not able to eat such delicacies every day and when we allow ourselves to such food tastes it, in my opinion, better.

    ReplyDelete
  50. wow...8300 euros for pizza? NICE. Of course we can eat cheap food available everywhere. We'll eat them and whether we will like it. But for some reason, some food is expensive. This is due to the availability or quality of food products, or difficulty in implementation of the dishes. Therefore, in some restaurants, the meals are so expensive.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with Ewelina that trufles are worth the price. But, Oh my God! I didn't hear about this expensive food. I think that people who have so much money go to this type of restaurant.Even in Warsaw food is more expensive and cheaper. Sometimes the same product is more expensive in different shop. I like good food, but 8300 EUROS for pizza is toooooooo much of course.

  53. I'm in shock. I knew that some of restaurants are expensive , but this is an exaggeration. On the other hand , prices are subjective , because for billionaires , these prices are cheap . Everything depends on our wallet . I hope one day I would like to go to one of this places for trying such specialties .

  54. Each product has its price. Some are more expensive second cheaper. To the influence of various factors. More expensive products may require more attention, are difficult to access, it takes a lot of work to bring it out. they are used in restaurants. The dish may be inflated price because it is served in a prestigious location. Typically, in the premises, which are located in the city center, or to the old towns are the greatest price. However, according to me, there are limits. Certainly not pay 500 euros for potatoes. Ordinary products are also very tasty.

    ReplyDelete
  55. In my opinion good product can be very expensive. If we use natural components and these things are handmade we are ready to pay so much. I love meet new tastes and tries new dishes. Maybe I can't buy kilogram of white truffles, but most of us could eat something contains this product. You need to enjoy life as much as possible. I love eat so I can waste money on explore new cuisine.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In my opinion these things aren't worth their price. But it's obvious that we pay not only for the food itself. Price depends on restaurant, prestige, brand and even the atmosphere. So, maybe it's a good idea to afford the luxury from time to time?

    ReplyDelete
  57. For me spending hundred thousands dollars on food is just irrational. Eating it takes you only few minutes. I don't think that the pleasure of it is worth so much money. You better hand over the money to someone who really needs eating. Maybe people who can afford, for example truffles, will never uderstand this, but who will forbid them. I guess that you can do at home maybe not exactly the same meals, but as good as the exapensive ones, which aren't so expensive. Most frequently the best dishes rise up from extant food from our fridges.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can understand the situation when some ingredient is so rare or so hard to gain, that it has to be really expensive. But I think that paying hundreds of dollars for food that isn't really special is a little bit naive. Most of the Warsaw prices is a result of marketing. I don't care what people are doing with their own money, but I wouldn't do that with mine, especially when the product isn't worth it.

  60. The natural order of things with regard to all the products is that the better a thing is, the more expensive it will be. It is no different with food. Better ingredients or better cooks make food more expensive. I myself don't have enough money to eat in expensive restaurants. I myself think that coffee in caffe nero for PLN 25 is too much. Unfortunately, this is how the market works.
