Men and beauty
Physical attractiveness can have a significant effect on different spheres of our activity. It exerts an influence on how people are judged, in terms of employment or social opportunities, friendship, sexual behaviour, and marriage. Often, without realizing it, humans attribute positive characteristics, such as intelligence and honesty, to attractive people.
During ages people don't find it difficult to distinguish beauty from ugliness.

Daily care
Nowadays the beauty products and beauty treatment become growing successful as area of men's interest, as some statistics developed by the beauty institutes clearly show.
I'm not sure is it true, but it was said that men tend to spend more time outdoors then women, so environmental pollutants affect their skin's health harder.
Numerous new lines of beauty products designed especially for men are coming to the marketplace due to the consumers demand.
In comparision to women, men have skin that is approximately 15% - 20% oilier with significantly larger pores than the fair sex do. The main reason causes some differences is the testosteron's level. This hormon has an effect on larger content of sabaceous glands in the skin - it increases a susceptibility to comedones' occurrence. Than we can say that the key issue in men's skincare is its daily cleansing by specially formulated cosmetic products.
To moisturize is the second indispemsable step in daily facial. Cream, vitamin E or aloe vera oil can be used. These you can get in liquid form, or you can buy them in capsules and rub the oil directly to the skin. On the market you'll also find an effective under eye moisturizer.
Toning helps maintain the skin clean and firm. Astringents and toners with glycolic or alpha hydroxy acids work the best for firming and refreshing dull skin. These acids also reduce the pore size.
The first anti-age treatment for men with Pure Retinol is a cream Biotherm Homme from Stop-Age line. It used to be reserver for women, but now also men skin's texture can be enhanced and stimulated to the renewal of cells in the epidermis.

Spa treatment
The word "spa" was only connected with women. Now men account for 35% of day spa-goers and narrowly under half of all resort, destination, and cruise line spa customers. That accounts for an increase of more than 300% in less than 10 years - striking growth, by any industry standards.
If women's beauty treatments serve as pamper, spa treatments for men are associated with therapeutic results.
I have read about three categories division of men's spa treatments:
- massage (such as Swedish, deep tissue, Indian head massage, reflexology, hot and cold stone massage, and aromatherapy)
- body work (body wraps, polishes, scrubs; facials; foot treatments; nail care)
- bath (herbal baths, mud baths, steams, showers, hot springs)
Due to the increased interest of men in skin and body care, most spas offer couple packages with breakfast, lunch and wine for two.
So, apart from faci al, spa and cosmetics which are in an order of the day (washing products, shaving products, perfume) we can include such care treatments for men like: depilation, eyebrows regulation, manicure, pedicure, liposupction, solarium, hair colouring, make-up.

Metrosexual
Have some well-known traditional masculine norms and roles changed?
If they have, is it for the better? Is there any limit to man&beauty relationship?
What do you think?
I think men have the same rights as women do and it's good that they have started to care about themselves. It's definitely more nicely to deal with well-groomed, elegant man than with the untidy and sleazy one.
ReplyDeleteI don't support plastic surgeries at all. I think they they're needless, both in men's and women's case.
Women want equality of rights but often they forget that it should work in all directions. Everyone can care about his/her body and everyone should do this.
I agree with Monika - I also think, that there is nothing bad in fact, that men care about themselves. In my oppinion, we find it strange, because we're under influence of stereotypes - man, who keeps an attention to his appearence is probably gay and the scruffy one is a "real" man, who has more important things to do. Of course - there are some limits - e.g. plastic surgeries only for making oneself "more beautiful", but I think it's a bit funny in both men and women causes.
ReplyDelete"It's good that men have started to care about themselves" - what a nonsense! I think that many men have cared about themselves ealier, and things like liposupction, manicure, eyebrows regulation aren't expression of caring, but rather of some strange fashion. It is undeniable that our species has two sexes: female and male. They are different in many ways, like appearence, so I think that man making make-up isn't normal - it's woman activity. I'm sorry girls that you think that man starts caring about himself only when he does what women do.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Michał. Man shouldn't do such things like pedicure or make-up. There are activities typical for women. But the other thing is that nowadays living conditions are much better than 30 years. Men have money and they can afford to go on gym few times a week or spend week in spa.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michał in all cases. Men should be smart, rather than elegant - it's not the same thing, remember Ladies! It's saomething curious when men do things like manicure, eybrows regulations, etc - it's not for us, but for opposite sex. It's important to take care of how we look and what we do to be "good" for women but going to SPA is not the best solution! I suppose and my girlfriend think the same - appearance is not the most important. Man might be well-built, have nice face and other visual "attractions" - but it's not the appropiate way. Men might be handsom, but not beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion men should be natty, smart and care about themselves. I think it's imoprtant for men and women to look appropriately because it's a part of personal manners.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand manicure, eyebrows regulation, make-up and other things like this are for me too unnatural for men. In my point of view these men are jealous of women's beauty and try to look like them. Metrosexual men are ridiculous for me. I think they have too much money, free time and sick ambition that's way they look like this.
I think it is a delicate topic, because it is a small borderline between caring about ourselves and exaggerated oversensitivity about one's looks. For me, it isn't necessary for men to make manicure, going to the solarium and, what is strange for me, making make up!
ReplyDeleteOf course, men should care about their appearance, especially nawadays, when the way we look is important in school, work and contacts with other people but they should stay in moderation;)
In my opinin men will be just gentelmen. If he will be gentelmen he have all heed things. He will be very polite and smart he will nave god manners. He won't to need pernament make up and spa or liposunctia so to awake delight women or jut another people.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinin me just must be handsome but if he don't care about his appearence he wil sleazy. And nothing help his: no manicure no eyebrows regulation when he don't just clean!
I also think that if men want, they should take care about their appearance. There is nothing wrong in it, that they want to feel attractive. Of course as you said, appearance wasn’t the most important, but in my opinion going to SPA, making manicure or pedicure, first of all, are the ways to improve their mood. What is more some men have problems with skin and for example using foundation can make them feel more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with opinion men should take care about their appearance. It's really important how you look because it helps to say a lot about concrete person. It's really not a problem to have well - groomed skin or hands... In addition I think that men should take more care what they wear. I even don't say about trends but for example about good size of clothes. Some such details may change a lot in general appearance:)
ReplyDeleteMaybe looking great in every inch isn't a quintessential thing to define masculinity, but that doesn't mean that men don't need to care about their looks at all. There are some things that I wouldn't do (especially eyebrows regulation ;)), but I don't see anything wrong in a guy going to spa or using other perfumes than "Brutal" toilet water.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone - men or women - should take care about appaerance. Masculine norms are differnet then some times earlier and I think it is for the better. Man should know how to look nice and if he need some cosmetics or spa - then go on. But maybe not make-up... And I think even a "beautiful" face couldn't help, when someone doesn't know how to behave.
ReplyDeleteAfter lecture of this post i noticed that some of grils want to dating mertosexual guy:) Definetely there is nothing wrong when men take care of himself, but there is some broder. When somoeone don't use soap and water, don't change his t-shirt or socks he is obviously scruffy and probably don't have too many friends. For the second hand if any girl want to have a boyfriend who spend more time in front of the mirror than she? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic.
ReplyDeleteTake care of myself? Yes, but there's a borderline which shouldn't be crossed.
Both, male and female should care about their body, clothing, appearance but don't go into the other corner where you spent hours in front of the mirror. Nice and easy, absolutely do not overdose.
With make-up or without it I do very like to see a person which I care about - not to mention that she looks great either way.
In my opnion men have the same rights as women do and it's good that they have started to care about themselves. It's definitely more nicely to deal with well-groomed, elegant man than with the untidy and sleazy one. But for me is too much to that men do something like liposupction, manicure, eyebrows regulation...
ReplyDeleteThese days more and more men take notice about how they look...I think that it is good because they take care about they health in a way...but without overstate:)
ReplyDeleteFor me two things are obvious. First that men should care about their appearance as well as women and second that as with everything else there is some borderline of common sense. I think that nowadays it is more common topic because the stereotype of a "real man" has changed a bit and additionally the cosmetic industry concentrates more on products for men - there is wider choice of them and they are better advertised.
ReplyDeleteI like when I see that a man is well-groomed and neat but I wouldn't like to know that my husband is spending more time in bathroom and more money in spa that I do. Men should stay men but I know that things will change especially because of the cosmetic companies that are looking for the new clients.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the most important is how man feel himself being. If I have problem with my style/appearance I should do something with myself. If I like going to gym I go to gym. If I like going to hairdresser every friday, why not to go?
ReplyDeleteI wrote this rule few times before, but I'll write it once again: "Everything depends".
I think that the World is changing and we can't stop it. Men are more taking care of their appearance, they are becoming more emotional, and women are now much more self-confident and brave.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, like in everything there mustn't be an overkill: for me men with make-up or dressed in fussy colorful clothes are losing their masculinity. I don't think it would be great when "boys look like girls and girls look like boys" (look: like emo does!).
I also agree that man should care about their appearance as well as women. However it doesn't mean that they should make a make up (for me it could be ridiculous)or do plastic sugrerys (I thing it is unnecessary also in case of womens). In this case I thing about do some sports or exercises, try to keep fit and loook good.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion man should care about their look and health as well as women.I think guys who can take care of themselves is a major plus. Because nowadays is so important how we look in contacts with other people.
ReplyDeleteThe fact is that man shuld care about their look and health, but not as well as women.Masculine norms has changed a lot.In my opinion man should be a man and they should't exaggerate with their look. For me metroseual is example of exaggeration.Man which look like a woman-that fit not in my head!
ReplyDeletei think men also like women should take care of yourself. of course, everything in some limits and common sense .Good that the man make sure to look good and to dress neatly, if it doesn't spill over into obsession. I can't imagine that my boyfrend spend more time before mirror than I do
ReplyDeleteHabits change and men in Poland try to care about their looks. Italian did it ages ago. Men have the same right to look nice and be atractive to women.
ReplyDeleteOf course they have right to look nice but some of them exaggerate in this matter. I'm not attracted to men who have too much gel in their hair and are wearing make-up (for example concealer). Man should look neat, have clean cloathes, smell nice, care about the skin and these are the most important things he should practice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with nika. If men look clean and smell good-it's enough. More important is what he's interested in, does he practises some sports, does he has some ideas about future life...
ReplyDeleteWe can see it on the streets-women often go out with "male-looking" men, the metrosexual are just good friends.
I can't really understand this annormous concentration on outlook nowadays. People are going crazy about it. They don't know what to do with themselves. Come on! There are many things, which are more important than they way you look. Life is not about being a pretty doll. I don't really care what men look like, it's their buisness. I prefer natural style, maybe because it's not fashionable now. 'Course, it's not a good thing when someone stinks or looks like he ran straight from the wilderness or mental asylum...but - one more time - there are many more important things people should focus on.
ReplyDeleteTo my mind it is good that men are getting interested in their health. Men live shorter than women and suffer from diseases more often that women. I think that modern relaxing and cosmetic treatments can improve their health. For me metrosexuality is effect of disordered society and wrongly carried out childrearing. Because of it people are forgetting about their nature and live according to other's mind ( I mean situations when we do something because it is called fashionable or trendy) instead of trying to find our own system of beauty values.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think is so good that men carry for their health, apperance, what they wear etc. In my point of view man should be elegant, smart and well-groomed. Of course metrosexualist cross the border but it is their choice how they are lookinog. But generally I'm really happy that men carry for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI can not look at the men who look like a women. Men first of all must be male. In my opinion women must to feel safe with men. And how it looks like the guy has a manicure, pink and tight sweater and is more thin than his women? In my opinion that is not a men. I know that men also must take care of yourself and be smart but everything has its limits.
ReplyDeleteI think that bar of soap and water it is sufficient to use by man, what more?man shouldn't look like well-cared barbie girl,it is just unnatural.Of course I like ellegant and good looks men,but without exaggeration when man makes a make-up(even it is "only" powder)and wonders what to wear longer than woman.I think that old division of the roles is this what we should follow.I think that lipstick should be in hands of women.
ReplyDeleteI like when man takes care about himself, looks and smells nice :D Of course I hate when someone looks like woman...that's going too far! I WANT MAN!:D
ReplyDeleteI understand that somebody wants to feel and look good...but for me first thing is personality :)
I think that man should care about themselves, I like when they look well-cared, but when I saw my friend who cares about himself too much I think that is not good. Where is border between men and women? I don't want to have boyfriend, who have more cosmetics from me!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think that every person should care about him or herself. But it isn't the most important in the life. We should think about another peoples not only about ourselves and our appearance.Everything is good if we don't lost too much time on it.I think the most important is to be yourself.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion everyone can decide what is good for them and everyone should do everything to feel good about themselves. But I think that a man should be a man and this should be seen. So I think that makeup and manicures should leave woman:)

ReplyDeleteI think, that there is nothing bad in fact, that men care about themselves, but as boberek 17 says, a men should be a men and a women should be a women :) and really men, who have more cosmetics from me is not normal for me, as monikap says :
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone should care about how looks..That's important in relationships..
ReplyDeleteWe prefer people who looks good and smells nice..That's natural that we want to look fashionable and be beautiful, especially :women.
But also men should care about their appearance...
On the other hand, some men want to look better than women...and that's really strange..
In my opinion, some differences between women and men should exist but unfortunately it changes and men take care of their look even more than women. That's crazy and really annoying!
Ok.Ok. I agree that man should have the same rights as woman, but PLEASE men should stay man. Of course they should, sorry!, MUST take care of themselves but there are some limits. We have enought woman on this planet we don't need anymore, especially when they naturally should be man.
ReplyDeleteCome on, man should be strong, wise, intelligent as a devil. Their appearence isn't so much important. What kind of a men is a stupid guy with make up on his face? :)
I just believe that I'm not creating a portrait of a hero!
The man should be a bit prettier than the monkey, spa, make-up, hairdresser time during the week, running round the shops with clothes are reserved only for women. Men should not this way be upset by it because they are losing their manhood. Metrosxual? Horrible, probably in Poland it is already because the plague of figurehead boys is running with impunity along streets.
ReplyDeleteAccording to me men should take care about their appearance but they should remember that they are not women!!! If my boyfrieng needs much time in bathroom because he wants to look good and handsome - it's ok. But I will be very angry when he'll spend all money in hairdresser ;))
ReplyDeleteMen want to be surrounded by beautiful and neat women.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately some men and women (although more men) don't care about their appearrance and sometimes hygiene.
It's sad, but it's true...
Men and beauty - yes, now men aren't ashamed cares about themselves (For example Krzysztof Ibisz:D :D :D ) I think that is good, but there are some limits. Tanning, nail painting, makeup - ELIMINATED!
ReplyDeleteWell, we admit. My Men also take care of your appearance by using different treatments or conditioners. But the regulation eyebrows, manicure, pedicure, liposupction and make-up - it can't be true T_T
ReplyDeleteNowadays we've got equal rights both for women and men. Men are not so willing to work in female jobs.
ReplyDeleteThey rarely use cosmetics, but I think it's nothing wrong, because everybody wants to look fine.
After reading the paragraph about Metrosexual I am outraged that young, well-groomed and wealthy men are meant to be the gay or bisexual. I have been studying computer science for a half of year and I really appreciate men who are clean-cut. Men should have opportunity to care about their appearance whitout being accused of being gay or bisexual! I am of the opinion that the presentation is not connected with our orientation and we should never judge people.
ReplyDeleteI think that too many guys nowadays are effeminate. Take care about yourself - yes, behave like a girl in bathroom - no. Men can wear skinny jeans and tight shirts but within the limits of a good taste. Pants which looks like leggins are pretty funny. If you want look like clown, go ahead.
ReplyDeleteAs man I can say that I would never go for plastic surgery of any kind. To be honest, if it is not medically necessary no one should be able to just get plastic surgery without proper psychological verification. But I digress.
ReplyDeleteIf one wants to 'feel pretty' It's choice that one must make for himself. But I support old-fashioned way in some sense. Man is not the one who should go to manicure, use some absurd amount of cosmetics. One should be clean and dress sharp, but that is all. Man need to be practical, strong and reliable.
But that is just my personal opinion.
I think that the boys in this times are more like girls than a girls :D I mean ok you can take care of yoursels. Shower is good. Hairspray? Ok. Cool. But make up? Come on. Guys. Be more like.. I dont know George Clooney? I dont know but please stop wearing this ridiculus skinny jeans with a croch in your knees.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion plastic surgerys are not only for look better. In a lot of cases people are doing them to feel better. And it's help them to be more selfconfident and met more people. If someone have complex its difficul for him to make new friends, fall in love or just live his lfe. And I think if plastic surgerys could help them get a life that they always wanted its ok to do them. And ofcourse there are medical problems as well. We cant juge people if we dont know the whole story.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a very natural process, years ago people didn’t know anything about hygiene and now thanks the education we become more “human”. Everyone must to have a possibility to care about self-bodies. In this century, the appearance, it’s a very important factor. Someone who looks good have a better reception of others. I think that prettier people have an easier life.
ReplyDelete
