E-learning

In times of profound change, the learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.

Al Rogers

What’s e-learning?

e-Learning is learning that takes place in an electronically simulated environment. It can be done using an internet connection, a network, an intranet, or a storage disk. It uses a variety of media like audio, text, virtual environments, video, and animation. e-Learning, in some ways, is even better than classroom learning methods as it is a one-on-one learning method, it is self-paced and it has an experiential-learning format.

What are the Advantages and disadvantages of e-learning?

Advantages

• Class work can be scheduled around personal and professional work
• Reduces travel cost and time to and from school
• Learners may have the option to select learning materials that meets their level of knowledge and interest
• Learners can study wherever they have access to a computer and Internet
• Different learning styles are addressed and facilitation of learning occurs through varied activities

Disadvantages

• Unmotivated learners or those with poor study habits may fall behind
• Lack of familiar structure and routine may take getting used to
• Students may feel isolated or miss social interaction
• Instructor may not always be available on demand

The Future is E-Learning

Research shows that online learning will be the future of training and education, especially for professionals with very busy schedules but want to upgrade their skills for better employability. Because E-Learning offers the flexibility of learning at your own time and pace, no need to take time out from work, or sacrifice precious moments away from your friends and loved ones.

Learners will become more independent and self-taught as it becomes increasingly easy and convenient for them to find information and knowledge at their fingertips - and right in their workplace

And if you want additional credentials on your CVs, there are online learning course providers who offer courses with Certification. Short courses are usually the preference with online learning, but many universities are now also offering it especially for Graduate Programs.

Where are the Examples of eLearning?

I give you some ideas on how the Web can be used in providing teaching and learning resources. There are so many way to start e-learning like blogs, games, crosswords, videos, chat sessions and many many more. I am sure you will find sth you like.

A summary of online education

Online education can help all people from all walks of like
gain the education they want to better themselves or to advance
in the career they already have. Whether you are a working
parent or an unemployed bachelor, there are courses available
for you to complete through online education.

Online education offers many benefits and few pitfalls when
compared to the more traditional 'classroom' approach but you
should carefully consider your options before jumping in.

There are costs associated with virtually all online education
courses but these are usually little more than the costs to
study at a college and when you consider that there are no
travelling expenses and no extra living costs, you may find
online education to be a much more financially viable option.

What do you think about e-learning? How the education will look like in the next 10 or 20 years?

  1. I think that E-learning is a very good idea. It helps us to save time (we make our own decicions when do we want to familiarize with material, we get some kind of freedom). It often turns out to be useful, the good example is our course. In my opinion such learning is something nice and good but since some age. I cannot imagine seven or eight years old children who learn by the Internet. There are some basics that should be discussed precisely what, in my opinion, cannot be done by the Internet.

  2. I think learning on the Internet can be a good form of saving time. However, in any case not replace personal contact with teachers. Always - not - because of any learning materials you can understand everything thoroughly, monitor not transmission gestures, emotions, or general contact with another human being. I think that - e-lerning is useful, such as learning foreign languages. There remains also the question of the exam. Rather, it is impossible to verify whether someone being at home does not use prohibited material assistance.

  3. In my opinion e-learning is very good, especially for people, who can't learn in other ways. My friend is a disabled person and she can't go to school. Lerning on the Internet and tv is for her only way to learn and "be on time". In the other hand some lessons must take place in school or university, with teacher und other students. For eg. laboratories in science can't be only a theory and computer modelling.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I also agree that e-learning may be useful method of developing our mind, but I think it will never replace learning in classes at all. Nowdays e-learning has a "long journey" to be as succesful in some cases as learning in classes. We can see it even in these course: it is useful to improve our skills in using English "in life", but better preparation for B2 Exam are rather classes.

  5. I think that e-learning is a good idea but it can't replace traditional learning at all because of ex. mentioned laboratories. Secondly, it is good for students to cooperate and spend time with their peers. I've heard that in Australia it is a common system of education caused by quite big distances between inhabitants and teachers. In my opinion, e-learning can play a big role in the future but won't replace the present system of education.

  6. I'm an e-learning follower too. I look upon it as to an educational addition. It's advantageous and profitable especially in case of lasting learning (in contrast to elementary education, as you said).
In this presentation virtues are formulated concisely and rightly, I agree with them and some disadvantages are wholly nonexistent for me.
If we talk about this course - it's much better revision for B2 exam than my last year learning in classes at out university.

  7. I also agree, that e-learning is quite useful idea, especially for people, who - for many reasons - can't participate in traditional classes. But I think, that it must be very hard to learn something only by internet, without contact with other people. Like someone said - many of us need some (real) person, wo can explain difficult things, people, for who we can talk, laugh etc and who motivate us to work better - because they do! And I don't believe, that internet communication could replace it at all.

  8. Yeah, e-learning is for most people very usefull. But I have to noticed that I'm much too lazy and forgetfull. E-learning is good idea for someone more systematic and aware of his life targets. I need someone to tell me "Mateusz come on! You so stupid! It's time to do something with yourself!" sometimes ;)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think e-learning is stupid idea! For thousand of years education based on meeting tutor with students. For adults or students, who are responsible, it's a good way to have a practise in some part of material. But not for children! Could you imagine the kids, sitting in front of the monitor in their homes and learning: reading poems, lectures, do the math exercises? It's a crazy thing! Of course, it's cheaper and more comfortable, but not effective. And there is some part of specialistic knowledge which there isn't in books, but in the people mind. Informations from the Internet isn't always true...

  10. I can't agree with dabros. E-learning is a very useful solution for people who has a little time, and for children, who can learn some self-motivation. Hovewer, it can't fully replace real lessons with real people. E-learning should be addition to traditional learning, not it's replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  11. well, some people are not enought mativate to learn this way. they don't do tests on the time, they are not reading and doing exercises because they are not watching by any teacher. anyway, people always have many other "more important" things to do on that time than e-learning test but when they at school they are thinking only about lessons and work, family or tv for example can't make them to stop learning there. i prefer learning at school and doing tests at school

    ReplyDelete
  12. As for me e - learning may be helpful, especially for people who are disabled. It's good for people who have only a little time, because they can make exercises when the have a time. But I think that anything can replace a contact with the second person and real discussion. In addition you should have a motivation if you want to learn something this way. So it's an good idea but it can't be the only way of learning.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think we can't do everything by e-learning, because I don't imagine lessons math or chemistry where you have to do the tasks on the Internet. I agree that it is sometimes useful if someone hasn't too much time commuting to a traditional school, but if someone has too little incentive to do exercises on the Internet should have a chance, I think that in the future will be the selection of teaching-traditual school or e - learning

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that e-learning is consistency of technology development. The net become a very important part of our life. For me, e-learning is a great idea - you don't have to go out, you can learn if you are ill and you can learn in this time which is the most appropriate for you. But on the other hand, it's not the best way to get knowledge if someone is lazy, and have problems with organized his time. Because whan you study at home there is no person who wll be keeping an eye on you.

    ReplyDelete
  15. In my opinion E-learning is good, but for people which don't have a lot of time. It have a lot of adventages, but we must know that E-learning never replace normal learning. I like when teacher keep an eye on my, so I think that E-learning is not good idea for me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think tah E-learning is really good thing. Especially when you don't have to search something in books or don't have time to go to the library. It is fast source of knowledge. But we have to remember taht some of this information may be false...not only true is in the internet...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree that e-learning can be a helpful tool in gaining knowledge although self-motivation and being systematic is essential if someone want to benefit from it. It's not only good for people with little time and that can't attend normal classes but also if you want to study something from which a traditional course is not accessible in your country/region. Though it has many advantages I don't believe that e-learning can fully replace traditional classes and actually it shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  18. In my opinion e-learning it's a good idea for people who don't have a lot of time. And it can be a very useful tool for work. But I also agree with you, this form of teaching can not replace traditional teaching.I think it's a good way to supplement traditional classes.

  19. Just like majority of you I also think that e-learning is a good idea. It has a lot advantages, for example you can choose place where you want to learn and time when you want to do it. You can do as many breaks as you need, you don’t have to rush. Everything depends on you. From the other hand there are also some disadvantages, if you for example don’t understand something there could be nobody next to you to explain you that or help in some other way. There is also an issue of motivation, if you haven’t enough self-discipline you can have problem with being systematic.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I like the idea idea of e-learning because I always had a problem with adjust to the school timetable. I would be able to learn when my body has the best efficiency. The worst thing is that e-learning shortage the contact with other people and I think that children should stay together as much as possible because it's necessary for a right development.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Like I said before, world is changing for better usually. E-learning will become worlds most common way of education because the Internet and other multi media technologies would be available almost everywhere. People are naturally lazy, going to school is against human nature. But also people like to be educated and smarter than average potato, this is the reason why future of education is in e-learning.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I thought that e-learning would be a great idea for poeple who don't have enough time to spend in classrooom but today I have a little bit different opinion.
First of all e-learinig should be organised in interesting way and help the participants to broad their minds and efficiently learn about something new. Additionally when it comes to languages courses I believe that speaking is the most important issue and it can't be avoided. Conversations between partakers and native speaker can't be done through the internet or it's complicated and I can't imagine this.
I think that some of people would have some difficutlies to do excercises on time. In classroom you're more motivated I think.

  23. E-learning is a good idea for people who wants to do a couple directions of studies and don't want to spend a whole week at the school. Also trainings for professionals should be done by internet, because I can do it in my free time, after work. Of course it must be well prepared, contain movies, sounds or conversations with teachers, to make it more useful.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think that e-learning is a very good idea that can help us learn, however, will never replace traditional ones. Using a web platform can also be useful for example when we are sick if we could catch up on the Internet. It is a good idea because it saves a lot of time, which you are always have too little

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with statement that e-learning is very useful, and help to save our time but it is not as much effective as a traditional ways of learning, and I think that traditional ways of learning shouldn't be replaced by internet ones.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree, e-learnig is very useful. But it istn't good idea for people who don't have time, because he can't mobilized to doing exercises, in my opinion (about me, for example).
So, if you are motivated and you have a little time, you may study by e-learning. But, if you dont't have motivation or time, better is traditional system od learning, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is a good idea for people who can easily mobilise and find motivation and time for learning. In my case the traditional way of learning is better. If I had more time maybe I would try.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that e-learning is a good idea. It's more indyvidual than normaly at school, and offer more things. You can learn something thanks for many kinds of sources eg. films, texts and games. It can be more interesting than learning in school

    ReplyDelete
  29. In my opinion it's a good way of learning in countries of big areas like Australia or sparsely populated like Island. In Poland school is not only a place where you learn, but also beginning of long-lasting friendships and socialization.
E-learning may be a useful to complete traditional education, but not instead of going to school

    ReplyDelete
  30. To my mind e-learning is going to become more and more popular... and efficent. Organisations that offer such kind of education all time improve exercises and quizes that are offered online. On the other hand we should remember that e-learning demands being more self-disciplined and self-aware of our abilities. We should control our education because nobody else has right to it. In other case we just lose oure time cheating our person.

    ReplyDelete
  31. On the one hand,e-learning is a really great idea.Online education is very useful and save our time. Thanks to e-learning we can use different, interesting media,like:audio,text,video,animation,blog,etc...That's very educational and modern.
But on the other hand,we have to remember that online education requires more self-discipline and when we don't understand something, teacher doesn't explain us immediately. Moreover, there is no social interaction when we are using e-learning.
So,I think that e-learning is a good way to complete traditional education. But I can't imagine that online education will replace traditional one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. E-learning is a really excellent for me. I can learn when I have a time and willingness. I save a time for access, it's very convenient and useful. Besides methods of learning are more curious and they have more abilities. But I agree with domini22, it's hard to imagine only e-learning. Students need contact in real with teachers and mostly with friends ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think that everything which to make possible our development is good. I don't see any disadventages of e-learning. Students may feel isoleted... why? Why don't they can met with their friends after doing exercises by Net. Counter, this learning is more flexible and they can plan more things. Of course I don't want to say that schools in the next 10 or 20 years shouldn't exist. In my opinion schools give friendships, skill manage in difficult situations and a lot of momeries. But when we deal e-learning as addition to develop our skills is ok. I don't see e-learning as substitution schools.

  34. E-learning it is a very good way too learm more from differentes subjects. It is simple metod which is saving our time.It is a good why to learn something for ill or disabled people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that e-learning may become only an addition to standard learning, but it will never replace it. Of course e-learning may save time, but I'm sorry time for what? For another e-learning course? I don't think so. Especially this students who have poor study habits won't benefits from such way of learn. Standard learning equalise the chances for evry student, when e-learning doesn't give any chances to lazy ones.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think that e-learning is a good idea and may be helpful,we can save a lot of time. But I agree with anaskor_barysz that it will never replace standard learning.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I believe very well that you can learn in this way. Each individual should decide which method best suits him. In today's age of computers there are so many opportunities to communicate like Skype, gg, etc., that even 'distance learning' does no problem:)

    ReplyDelete
  38. for me e-learnig it's very good idea because savery my time in the day in my University and the same lessosns can make in home in other time. And when I learning this I dedicate enough time some time more if I doing in real lessons. I was asked my friend about this inssue and they also agreed with my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think e-learning is a good option when you do not have time to travel, but we can not replace the real ways of learning, because in reality, only someone could explain us to us things that are incomprehensible.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think that e-learning can be helpful,of course if it is not only way of your studying. In my opinion this kind of learning is really good if you want to know something more, additional,to develop yourself or if this subject is your hobby, but at the beging of the learning I propose traditional teacher which will explain and answer qestions.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Again, I must agree with previous speakers, especialy with Caroline. E-learning is good at some point, but shouldn't be the only way of teaching. For example kids from primary or secondary school don't have so many experience, skill and motivation to learn a big part of some subject by themselves. There must be someone who will guide them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think that e-learning is a good idea and can be useful and helpful, but this method can not replace lesson in real classrooms and real, live teachers. Every child needs to accurate evolution contact with peers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think that e-learning is the future of the science but not for all. It depends of the individual preferences of each person. I think learning on the Internet should be available to the public. Myself do not use of such a options on the Internet since it does not benefit on this much - I prefer contact to the teacher, participate in lextures/ classes. But perhaps others will choose once the e-learning.

    ReplyDelete
  44. In my opinion e-learning is good solution for somebody who has already got an education in some science field and now want to try sometinhg new and now they don't have some much spare time to widen their horizonts. I think E-learning is not good for adolescents, beacuse they are trying to avoid learning in basic dimension.

    ReplyDelete
  45. E-learning is good idea for people who has a little time. I suppose it will play a big role in the future. However nowadays it can't replace the traditional system of education. At first people should change their way of thinking about e-lerning and start to treat it more seriously. I think that this is often superstition that e-lerning is something worse than personal contact with teachers and other students. Is it really traditional sitting in class so effective?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Super way for the learning, always when the time and the willingness are had, but not in case of all classes. I think that the part of the practical should be held in a current system - picture, photograph and methodology. In case of tongues and generally speaking it is worthwhile learning lectures through the Internet, by the tea the most boring lecture will come out positively;)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think e-learning is not a bad option. In the future it can be the main way of teaching/learning. In the other hand - there are some things I don't like in it. For egzample technology is often very unreliable (look at USOS!) and it can fail in the most inappropriate moment. The other things is that your contact with the teacher and other students from the group is very little (almost none).

    ReplyDelete
  48. Internet creates a lot of new opportunities.I think that e-learning is good idea to save time and learn something new. In my opinion, it is the future of education.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm not sure that e-learning is such a great option. Of course, it is a future of education. But in my opninion it fails too often (like USOS).

    ReplyDelete
  50. In my opinion e-learning is aimed at people who do not have time for normal classes. I,, I go "for two such courses. I can work when I have the time.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I believe that E-learning is a very good thing. People can learn many different things over the Internet. This allows them to expand their knowledge. E-learning helps students who can't attend normal school. They can learn normally. Polish children abroad also have the possibility .Polish state created a service that allows education to these children in Polish. Are also run extra classes. But I think that even for these many years of traditional education will continue to work well.

    ReplyDelete
  52. In my opinion elearning is bad and its good for students. Its bad becouse you dont have contact with other people and there is noone to check your mistakes and tell you how to fix them. But its also good becouse you can learn more stuff and you can do it when you want to.
